The Business Alphabet: NP CEO on the SBA NAC
The CEO of NP has been appointed to a two-year term on the SBA's NAC…which is a bureaucratic way of announcing that Rebecca Boenigk, CEO of Bryan-based, Neutral Posture, Inc., will now be one of the few female business owners ever to serve on the National Advisory Council (NAC) of the Small Business Administration (SBA).
Boenigk, who also recently accepted a two-year term on the board of directors for the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA), says she is honored, and believes she can make a difference for other small businesses.
Boenigk has also been an active part of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a political action committee that lobbies on behalf of women in business and women's business enterprises (WBEs). She also spoke before Congressional committees and subcommittees last year at the invitation of Congressman John Carter, helping to pass legislation that would keep Federal Prison Industries from competing unfairly with private, tax-paying businesses for federal furniture contracts.
"The SBA is the only official agency created to assist small businesses," said Hector Barreto, Administrator of the Small Business Administration. "The NAC plays a unique role in advising the administrator and agency officials about vital issues affecting small business throughout our country."
Boenigk's two-year term began June 18th of this year, and Boenigk says she hopes to be able to bring a unique perspective to the council, as both a female business owner and a small business owner.
